What is TDY?

TeamDance Youth (TDY) is a newly created division of TeamDance Illinois.  After successfully piloting this program in 2006 - 2007, TDI is offering a full competition series for teams with students in grades 5th - 9th.  TDY is open to all types of teams, including; Junior High’s, Middle School’s, Dance Studio Teams, Rec. Teams, All Star Teams, Park District Teams, Gymnastic Center Teams, and Independent Teams.  TDY is open to teams from outside Illinois!

TDY’s mission is to become Illinois’ premiere dance team and flag corps alliance by providing youth student performers the opportunity to participate in dance, flag, and drill competition, to receive technical and artistic training through educational seminars.

TDY can provide youth teams the opportunity to compete in the same circuit as their high school dance teams!

TDI is a non-profit organization that follows the IHSA Spirit Guidelines and the NFHS spirit rules recognizing the status of high school competitive dance as an emerging sport in Illinois.

What TDY has to offer -

TDY is Illinois' only non-for-profit competitive youth dance and flag organization.

Illinois' only Coach Association for Youth Dance and Flag Coaches.

Double Panel of Judges!  Each performance will be judged by 2 technical judges and 2 artistic judges.  Each judge will not only score the performance, but also offer a taped oral critique and make themselves available at the end of the day for a 5 minute "critique session"

A team of officials who work with the teams prior to their performance in an effort to proactively eliminate any IHSA and NFHA Safety rules issues.  This includes a Ready Line check and meeting with a Time and Penalty Offcial in a private warm-up gym setting.  TDY teams are encouraged to go to www.ihsa.org to purchase the Spirit Rules book ($6 and listed under "Cheerleading/Spirit).  TDY teams are further encouraged to attend an IHSA Spirit Rules meeting which are offered now through October.  None of this is mandatory, but recommended.

TDY teams will receive placements.  Top placements will receive trophies.

The opportunity to watch high school teams compete!  All TDY competitions will be held in conjunction with TDI Dance and, in some locations, TDI Flag Competitions.

The opportunity to compete in a season culminating competition called TDY Final Frenzy!  This will allow teams to compete at one or more of 10 regular -season competitions and then go into this final competition better prepared and ready to compete!!!  The Final Frenzy Competition will be at Geneva High School, on Sunday, February 10th, 2008.

What divisions and grade levels does TDY offer competition to?

TDY offers competition to students in grades 5-9.

Senior Division grades 7-9

Team’s division placement is based on the “Majority” of the team’s grade level, with 75% percent being the guidepost.  If 75% or more of the team falls into 5th, 6th or 7th grade, the team will be placed in the Junior Division.  If 75% or more of the team falls into 7th, 8th,or 9th grade then the team will be placed in the senior division.  If the team’s majority (75%) falls into 7th grade, the team can be placed in either division based on ability and the coaches discretion.  Note: If the team clearly belongs in the Senior division the HCO will inform the coach to ensure proper division placement at any following TDY contests.  It will be documented with membership which division that team should be placed in future contests to ensure healthy and fair competition in each division.
